Starting signal for the IKA/Culinary Olympics

With the successful kick-off event, the German Chefs’ Association and Messe Erfurt (Erfurt Fairgrounds) served the first course of the 24th IKA/Culinary Olympics 2016. Numerous local and foreign chefs, sponsors and partners of the Culinary Olympics followed the competition draw with great interest and excitement.

IKA ambassador, luge atheletes and two-women bobsleigh Susi Erdmann, our former World Champion and olympic medal winner, did an excellent job. Ultimately it was in her hands as to which teams would be taking up their positions behind the stoves on the different days of the Culinary Olympics. Slip by slip, she extracted from the pool the days on which the 32 national culinary teams, 20 junior national culinary teams and the 20 teams vying for the GV-Award will be competing in the kitchens.

To begin with, we only drew the days for the hot kitchen competitions. The days when the national culinary teams will present their exhibits on show platters, and the junior teams will present their buffets, will be published soon. Registrations for the regional teams will be accepted until 31st March 2016 and those of individual exhibitors until 31st July 2016.
The President of the German Chefs’ Association, Andreas Becker, and his fellow Executive Committee and Board Members were delighted with the start of the Olympic Year. “Erfurt has long become our culinary home and we can’t wait to welcome our colleagues from all over the world.”
